Toronto man charged with human trafficking

A 22-year-old Toronto man has been charged after he allegedly forced a woman to become a prostitute and tormented her for a year and a half.

Police say Michael Paul Mitchell exploited, controlled, threatened, extorted and assaulted the 20-year-old woman from August 2009 to February 2011.

He has been charged with 11 offences, including procuring a person to become a prostitute, trafficking in persons and threatening bodily harm.

And police believe he may have victimized other women.

Mitchell was scheduled to appear in a Toronto court on Friday.
