McGuinty kicks off trade mission in China

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty has kicked off his one-week trade mission in China.

Joined by 50 delegates representing 38 businesses, universities and other organizations, McGuinty delivered his opening remarks and participated in a contract signing ceremony in Shanghai.

“This mission will build on the success of previous trade missions to China that have helped bring new investments and created thousands of jobs in Ontario,” said McGuinty. “I’m here to help open more doors for Ontario companies so they can meet potential Chinese partners.”

Over the week McGuinty and his delegates will meet with over 500 Chinese companies with the focus on identifying new opportunities in the agri-food, clean water and clean technology sectors.

This is the fourth trade mission McGuinty has made to China since first elected in 2003.

The premier will spend two days in Shanghai before moving on to Nanjing, Chengdu and Beijing.

This will be McGuinty’s final trade mission to China before stepping down as Ontario Liberal leader.

Canadian Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China H.E. Guy Saint-Jacques, Ontario Minister of Economic Development and Innovation Brad Duguid and Vice-Chairman of the Chinese Corporation for the Promotion of International Trade Mr. Wang Lei were also in attendance.
