Strong winds down trees, power lines across GTA

Environment Canada has ended a wind warning issued on Sunday for most of southern Ontario, including the GTA.

The agency said winds were gusting to 90 km/h.

The wind brought down trees and power lines across the area, including Toronto, Hamilton and the regions of York, Durham, Peel and Halton.

Rosedale Valley Road is closed between Bayview and Park roads to clean up part of a tree and wires.

Toronto Hydro said about 1,500 customers had no power early Sunday morning, but they had restored electricity to all but 500 customers by around 10:30 a.m. Hydro One counted 16,000 customers province-wide without power at one point.

The strong northwest winds will weaken over the day as the system moves east to Quebec.
