The extreme cold weather played a role in the death of a 53-year-old man, whose body was found outside a Scarborough strip mall on Monday night.
Officers were called to the plaza near Markham Road and McNicoll Avenue around 11:30 p.m. where the man was found outside without vital signs.
He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Toronto EMS confirms the man suffered from hypothermia, but he may have had other medical conditions that may have contributed to his death.
His name hasn’t been released.
The city of Toronto declared an extreme cold alert on Monday afternoon, warning homeless people to seek indoor shelter after Environment Canada predicted overnight temperatures could dip below -15 C.
