The teen charged with killing a young woman in a North York home was remanded into custody during a court appearance on Monday.

Mohamed Adam Bharwani, 18, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder on Sunday. He will next appear in court on Feb. 21.

Autopsy results released Monday determined the cause of death to be manual strangulation.

Police have not released the name of the 23-year-old woman and the relationship between the victim and suspect hasn’t been disclosed.

Officers were called to a home on Clancy Drive, near Don Mills Road and Finch Avenue East, around 2 p.m. on Saturday. The woman was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
