Man faces first-degree murder charge in fatal CNE grounds shooting

A Toronto man is now facing a first-degree murder charge after a Brampton man shot on the CNE grounds earlier this month died in hospital.

Tony Hoang Dinh, 18, of Toronto, was arrested on Feb. 11 and initially charged with attempted murder with a firearm in addition to numerous other criminal offences. He was expected to make a court appearance at Old City Hall on Thursday morning.

Naveed Shahnawaz, 19, was shot after a fight began outside the Muzik nightclub around 3 a.m. on Feb. 10 but he died in hospital on Feb. 15.

Another man was also shot, but survived.

In the same incident, Jonathan Kwok-Ho Lau, 19, was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assault with a weapon and breach of recognizance.

Hoan Nguyen, 26, was charged with assault.
