New Florida home sought for Toronto Blue Jays: report

The Toronto Blue Jays are searching for a new stadium for spring training after outgrowing their Dunedin, Fla., digs, the Globe and Mail reports.

When the lease on the Florida Auto Exchange Stadium expires in 2017, the team could end up sharing space with the Washington Nationals or Houston Astros.

Calls to the Toronto Blue Jays were not immediately returned.

Jays president Paul Beeston told the newspaper that while the team would remain in Dunedin “in a perfect world,” the separated training grounds and stadium are “not ideal.”

There are about six kilometres between the two complexes, the Globe and Mail reported.

The team has been playing in Dunedin since 1977 and at the Florida Auto Exchange Stadium since 1990. Before that, Jays played at Grant Field in Dunedin.

Earlier this year, Breakfast Television’s Kevin Frankish toured Dunedin. Check out the video or click here to view it.
