Ill health forces Morrissey to cancel U.S. tour

Steven Morrissey, former frontman of the The Smiths, has been forced to cancel 22 remaining U.S. tour dates due to health issues, a spokesperson for the singer said on Friday.
In a statement, Morrissey’s publicist said the singer has suffered a series of medical mishaps over the past few months including a bleeding ulcer, Barrett’s esophagus and double pneumonia.
Morrissey, 53, whose hits include First of the Gang to Die and Irish Blood, English Heart, toured North America last fall, played some shows in Australia and New Zealand in December and came back to perform in the United States earlier this year.
Morrissey founded The Smiths with Johnny Marr in 1982 and the two musicians co-wrote the band’s songs for four albums before going their separate ways in 1987.
