Thousands from Toronto’s Greek community turned out for at a parade on the Danforth on Sunday to celebrate Greece’s Independence Day.
“It takes about three months worth of planning,” said Nikona Georgakopoulos of the Greek Community of Toronto.
“We just celebrate 1821, the independence of Greece. Every Greek child knows what the 25th of March, 1821 is all about. It’s enshrined.”
The parade began at Eastern Commerce Collegiate Institute at 11 a.m. and headed west on Danforth Avenue to Jackman.
That stretch of the Danforth was closed to traffic during the parade.
