Blue Jays merchandise sales on big upswing

The Toronto Blue Jays play their home opener one week from Tuesday, and it seems the club has already won the merchandise wars.

Blue Jays’ VP of marketing, Anthony Partipilo, said the club has seen a “high double-digit” increase in off-season apparel sales, although he wouldn’t give the exact figure, according to a report in the Toronto Star.

Fanatics.com told the Star there’s been an 70 per cent increase in Blue Jays apparel compared with last off-season, and a 60 per cent hike in March this year, compared to March 2012.

The top-selling player jersey so far are Jose Bautista, Brett Lawrie, along with newcomers R. A. Dickey and Jose Reyes.

In 2012, the sale of Blue Jays team caps soared 80 per cent due to a new logo.

The Blue Jays home opener against the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday, April 2, gets underway at 7:07 p.m.
