Vanished velociraptor on Vancouver Island sparks prehistoric plea

NANOOSE BAY, B.C. – Metal theft may be going the way of the dinosaur on Vancouver Island, but that’s not necessarily a good thing.
RCMP in Oceanside, B.C., say someone has stolen a metal sculpture of a dinosaur from a home in Nanoose Bay, about 25 kilometres north of Nanaimo.
Investigators are now looking for the Neanderthal who skulked off with the sculpture — a metre-high velociraptor-type model that was keeping the garden gnomes at bay on the home’s front lawn.
The absconded artwork weighed an estimated 30 kilograms and police say thieves likely used a truck to cart away the curious Cretaceous creation.
Officers also doubt the dramatic dinosaur can be easily disguised.
Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the sculpture or can help return the toothy treasure to its rightful owners. (CKAY)
