Woman accused in brutal stabbing murder of George Fawell

A woman is accused of first-degree murder in the brutal stabbing death of George Fawell, whose body was found near Jimmie Simpson Park, in the Queen Street East and Broadview Avenue area, last August.

Police arrested the suspect, 39-year-old Lori Ann Crook, on Wednesday and charged her with murder and forcible confinement. Authorities won’t comment on the relationship between the suspect and victim.

Days after Fawell’s body was found, Det.-Sgt. Gary Giroux said he believed Fawell and the offender or offenders had a tremendous amount of “baggage” with each other and that the attack was “extremely personal in nature.”

Two Salvation Army outreach workers found Fawell’s body on an embankment near some GO train tracks on the morning of Aug. 24, 2012. The 24-year-old man had been stabbed in the chest, neck and head several times.

Giroux said the attack likely lasted for “some period of time” and that the crime demonstrated a “great deal of anger and rage.”

“George was a human being. No one deserves to be dumped like garbage. How would their mother feel if that was them?” Fawell’s aunt and former legal guardian, Deanna Parlee, said days after her nephew’s body was found.

Crook was scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.
