Pop star Beyonce and her husband, rapper Jay-Z, celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary in Cuba on Thursday, much to the delight of fans in Havana.
On Thursday afternoon, Beyonce was seen leaving the neo-classical Saratoga Hotel, just steps from Havana’s National Capitol Building, home to the Cuban Academy of Sciences.
“I am very happy that such a high-level figure is here in Cuba,” 20-year old photographer Cesar Carballo said.
Later, Beyonce was greeted by throngs of screaming fans as she entered the La Fontana restaurant in Havana’s Miramar district.
“I really wanted to see her because I like many of her songs. I am very happy that she came to Cuba,” said Claudia, a 15-year old student.
Also on Thursday, Jose Cabanas, the top Cuban diplomat in the United States, said that the media was too fixated on Cuba’s best-known dissident and blogger Yoani Sanchez and had not focused enough on positive news coming out of Cuba, such as Beyonce’s visit.
Wednesday night, the power couple shocked restaurant workers at the La Guarida restaurant when they strolled into the eatery for dinner.
The influential couple tied the knot five years ago on April 4, 2008 in Paris.
