Man charged after woman found dead in Regent Park

A 42-year-old man is facing a charge of second-degree murder after the body of a woman was found in Regent Park early Saturday morning.

It happened in an apartment building run by Toronto Community Housing on Oak Street, near Gerrard and River.

Police responded to a call around 5:45 a.m., where they located a woman suffering obvious signs of trauma. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

“At the time they found a deceased female within the kitchen area of the small apartment,” Det. Sgt. Gary Giroux told CityNews. “There was a male on scene and he was immediately taken into custody.”

Brian Harte of Toronto appeared in court on Sunday.

An autopsy confirmed that Natasha Perez, 28, died from a incised wound to the neck.

The victim’s father told CityNews his daughter didn’t know her attacker.

“As far as we know there was no relation between her and the suspect,” Ceasar Perez explained. “I don’t know him, no one in the family knows him.”

He said his daughter was a beautiful girl with a big heart who, although she had some troubles when she was younger, was successfully straightening out her life.

This is not the first time a violent act has occurred in this apartment complex.

On Feb. 6, a man in his 40s was injured in a shooting.
