LCBO employees vote on strike mandate

Across Ontario LCBO employees have headed to the polls to vote on a possible strike mandate if talks between the union and the government fail.

“Over the last two days we’ve had our members go into polling stations around the province to vote on whether to give the bargaining team a strike mandate,” Denise Davis, chair of the liquor store employees division within the Ontario Public Service Employees Union told CityNews.

Among those casting their vote are the hundreds of employees at retail stores and logistics facilities along with head office staff.

The result of the vote is expected to be released on Wednesday morning.

Davis insists that the two sides are not yet at an impass but a strike mandate would give the bargaining team “the leverage to put more pressure on the LCBO to agree on a decent collective agreement.”

The two sides will head back to the table on Wednesday.
