Gala kicks off ReelWorld Film Festival

The ReelWorld Film Festival kicked off its 13th year with an opening Gala at the Famous Players Canada Square Cinema on Wednesday.

The festival, which showcases films and music videos from Aboriginal, Asian, Black, Latino, Middle Eastern, South Asian, and other racially diverse communities, runs from Apr. 10 to 14.

Among those in attendance was actress and ReelWorld founder Tonya Lee Williams.

“Toronto is one of the most diverse cities in the world and I couldn’t think of anywhere else that it would be as receptive to have a film festival like this.” she told CityNews.

“What’s wonderful about doing a festival like this is you actually get people of diversity telling their stories in their own words.”

Starting off the festival was the romantic comedy ‘Contract’ from Ghana.
