Trailer for ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ released

The trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was released during the MTV movie awards on Sunday night, giving fans a glimpse of the highly-anticipated sequel.

Tributes Katniss, played by Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence, and Peeta, played by Josh Hutcherson, survived a literal fight to the death in the first movie and must now return to the battlefield.

In a scene lifted nearly directly from the dystopian young adult novel, Lawrence and Hutcherson stare down at residents of District 12 during their ‘Victory Tour.’

One of the men in the crowd offers his support using a hand signal that is quickly copied by others. However, the action is seen as a sign of rebellion by the guards, and the man is taken away.

Donald Sutherland returns as President Snow, while Oscar-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman takes on the role of games designer Plutarch Heavensbee.

Catching Fire, the second movie in the Hunger Games trilogy, will be released in November 2013. Mockingjay, the third and final book, will be split into two movies, the first of which will be released in 2015.
