Canadian Business: The 10 best jobs in Canada

What does your dream job look like to you?

While the specifics may vary from person to person, there are some things most can agree on: sought-after sectors are hiring, treating their employees well and paying more and more.

In compiling its list of the country’s top professions, Canadian Business magazine and canadianbusiness.com combed through government data on more than 600 categories and took into account salary, number of people hired and competition for jobs.

Not surprisingly, many of the best jobs are in Alberta’s oilpatch, where the gap between openings and eligible candidates is driving up salaries. Oil and gas supervisors were No. 1 on the list, and petroleum and chemical engineers were also in the Top 10.

Still, the oilpatch isn’t the only place to find a good job. Construction workers’ earnings jumped six per cent over the past year — nearly double the national average. And the public sector accounted for the highest-paying jobs.
