‘All My Children’ and ‘One Life To Live’ return to television

Popular daytime soap operas All My Children and One Life to Live are returning to television Monday on FX Canada.

New episodes of All My Children will air at noon (2 p.m. PT) and One Life to Live will follow at 12:30 p.m.

Fans will note a few differences: for one, the shows are only half an hour long, down from their original 60-minute running time.

And the shows are also available for digital viewers in the United States, with episodes for sale on Hulu and on iTunes.

All My Children is set five years after the show went off the air, while One Life to Live’s time lapse is a year, Parade magazine reported.

ABC cancelled both shows in 2011, with All My Children going off the air in September, and One Life to Live continuing until January 2012.

Before its cancellation, All My Children had run for 41 years and launched the careers of such recognizable stars as Susan Lucci, Josh Duhamel, Amanda Seyfried, Melissa Leo, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Christian Slater and Kelly Ripa. One Life to Live had been on the air for an even more impressive 42 years.

After ABC canned the shows, production company Prospect Park snapped up the rights to the programs and spent two years developing the new version of the soap operas.

Rogers Media is the parent company of FX Canada, CityNews and CityNews.ca.
