Elevator workers on strike in Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa

The International Union of Elevator Constructors Locals 96, 90 and 50 began strike action Wednesday.

The three locals in Ontario went on strike — for the first time in over 20 years — after negotiations folded early Wednesday morning.

Pickets have been set up at various locations.

The union says the employer has agreed to a pay hike but will not budge on other issues including overtime pay and travel time.

Managers who are licensed will be brought in to do any repair work.
