Peeved by potholes? Vote for Ontario’s worst roads

Is your commute compromised by congestion or plagued by potholes? Now, you can sound off as part of the annual Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) survey on the worst roads in Ontario.

The campaign is aimed at highlighting roads in disrepair and routes that are overly-congested or poorly-designed.

Last year, Toronto streets took up five of the top-ten spots, with Dufferin Street having the dubious honour of a first-place finish. CAA said 80 per cent of drivers who voted for Dufferin complained about potholes and crumbling pavement.

It was the sixth year Dufferin has made the list, with specific dishonorable mention for the stretch from the Exhibition to St. Clair Avenue West.

Four other Toronto streets cracked the Top 10: Lawrence Avenue East came in at No. 6, Finch Avenue West at No. 8, Kingston Road was No. 9 and Bayview Avenue was No. 10.

This year, CAA is calling on the Ontario government to dedicate a share of the gas tax to improving roads, bridges and highways.

Currently, the province charges 14.7 cents on every litre of gas and diesel, which generates approximately $2.3 billion a year, CAA said.

“Motorists deserve gas tax fairness.  Drivers are paying the tax every time they fill up at the pumps and they want to see that money reinvested back in to infrastructure,” CAA’s Faye Lyons said in a statement.

Nominate or vote on a worst road here. Voting ends May 31.
