Leafs’ Fraser takes puck to face, sent to hospital

Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Mark Fraser was taken to the hospital after being hit in the face with a puck during Game 4 against the Boston Bruins Wednesday night.

Fraser took a Milan Lucic slapshot to the forehead while standing in front of the Maple Leafs’ net midway through the third period of the Bruins’ 4-3 overtime win.

The 26-year-old went to the ice immediately and needed to be helped off by trainers.

A pool of blood needed to be cleaned off the ice.

Fraser left the Air Canada Centre in street clothes and did not return to the game.

After the game, Leafs head coach Randy Carlyle said Fraser underwent a CT scan to ensure he didn’t suffer any facial fractures.

Fraser registered an assist on Cody Franson’s second-period goal.

The Bruins took a 3-1 series lead over the Leafs and have a chance to finish the series with a win at home Friday in Boston.

The play was reminiscent of when New York Rangers blue-liner Marc Staal was hit above the eye with a puck in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers in early March.
