Taylor Swift sweeps Billboard Awards

Country pop princess Taylor Swift was the big winner Sunday night at the Billboard Music Awards.

Swift won eight of the 11 awards she was nominated for, including top artist and top Billboard 200 album for Red.

Justin Bieber, who performed twice during the show, took home three awards – top male artist, top social artist and the fan-voted milestone award.

Bieber was briefly booed as he headed up to accept the milestone award – which he won over Bruno Mars and Swift.

“I’m 19 years old; I think I’m doing a pretty good job,” Bieber said during his acceptance speech. “Basically from my heart I really just want to say it should really be about the music, it should be about the craft that I’m making. This is not a gimmick. I’m an artist and I should be taken seriously and all this other bull should not be spoken.’

He then thanked his family and God before leaving the stage.

Maroon 5 and fun. were also nominated for 11 awards and walked away with one win each in pre-telecast announcements. Gotye and Rihanna had the second-most wins with four awards each.

Canadians Drake and Deadmau5 were also nominated for awards but walked away empty handed.

Prince, who received the icon award, closed the awards show with a medley of his hits.

The star-studded show was hosted by 30 Rock‘s Tracy Morgan.
