Duffy received expenses while campaigning for Tories

Senate officials have confirmed that Mike Duffy claimed and received living expenses while he was campaigning for the Conservatives during the last federal election.

The information was revealed during a meeting of a Senate committee reviewing the former Conservative senator’s expense claims.

The Senate’s finance department found that Duffy claimed daily living expenses on seven days during the campaign period when he was not in Ottawa.

The Canadian Press reported earlier this month that Duffy had been campaigning for the Conservatives across the country when he reported being on Senate business.

The report from the Senate officials bluntly states that Duffy’s expense claims represent a pattern that has raised their concerns.

Conservative Sen. Larry Smith immediately put forward a motion recommending the matter be forwarded to the RCMP.
