Major summer construction project on Avenue Road begins

Avenue Road will be a mess this summer as crews work on a major construction project through the middle of the city.

The major north-south route will see lanes closed between Bloor Street and Lawrence Avenue starting Monday and running until Sept. 15. The city says at least one lane will always be open in each direction.

The area will still be accessible to pedestrians.

“This $6-million investment will significantly improve the quality of Avenue Road in these areas,” said Coun. Denzil Minnan-Wong, chair of the city’s public works and infrastructure committee.

“We ask for the public’s patience as we undertake this important work to improve infrastructure in the community.”

This last phase — which includes cutting utility, paving roads, painting lines and fixing sidewalks and curbs — follows other infrastructure work on Avenue, including replacing the watermain.

Work is also planned for Lonsdale Road, Oriole Parkway and Chaplin Cresent.
