Jaye Robinson removed from mayor’s executive committee

Coun. Jaye Robinson has been dumped from the mayor’s executive committee.

The mayor’s office confirmed with 680News on Monday afternoon that Robinson has been replaced by Coun. Anthony Perruzza.

Robinson, who wasn’t immediately available to comment, said she’d hold a news conference on Tuesday morning.

I will be giving a statement and taking questions tomorrow morning at 9am in the Press Gallery about the Mayor’s recent announcement.

Robinson was critical of Ford in recent days, and was one of six executive committee members who signed an open letter urging the mayor to be more transparent in his response to the allegations of reported drug use last month.

But Coun. Doug Ford said the move had nothing to do with her vocal criticisms of Mayor Ford.

“Like any government…you make changes within your executive,” Doug Ford told CityNews on Monday night. “Any mayor or premier or prime minister makes a shuffle of the cabinet, and that’s about as far as it’s gone here. I’m surprised the mayor didn’t do this a long time ago.”

Her departure means the 13-member committee is now comprised of only men, but Coun. Ford pointed out that women hold several key positions at city hall, including TTC Chair Karen Stintz, speaker of city council, Frances Nunziata, and Ana Bailao, who serves as Chair of the Affordable Housing Committee.

Robinson, the councillor for Don Valley West, was also replaced by Perruzza as chair of the community development and recreation committee, the mayor’s office said Monday in a release.

In other city hall news, Coun. Paul Ainslie was replaced by Coun. Norm Kelly as chair of the government management committee. Ainslie has been in the outs with the Ford administration since he was quoted in the Toronto Star, saying the mayor was asked to leave the Garrison military fundraising ball in February because he appeared to be impaired.

Ainslie, who had his driver’s licence suspended for blowing a warning level during a breath test on May 3, will be chair of the parks and environment committee.
