Teen in hospital after 3-vehicle collision near Orangeville

A 15-year-old girl remains at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children in critical condition after a three-vehicle crash on Highway 9 near Orangeville on Wednesday.

Ontario Provincial Police say a westbound Chrysler Intrepid crossed the centre line into the eastbound lanes and hit a Toyota Prius around 2:15 p.m.  The driver of the Intrepid then hit a Kia Optima head-on.

The driver of the Intrepid, a 17-year-old boy, and his passenger, a 16-year-old boy, had non-life threatening injuries.

The 15-year-old girl was also a passenger in the Intrepid.

The driver of the Kia Optima, a 46-year-old man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Hwy. 9 between 7th and 8th Line was closed for several hours while police conducted their investigation. OPP said the section of highway reopened to traffic in both directions shortly before 11 p.m.

No charges have been laid.

Note to readers: Police initially said the girl hurt in the crash was 17.
