Deal reached to end Ontario elevator workers’ strike

A tentative deal reached on Friday will bring back more reliable service on elevators and escalators in the province.

The National Elevator Escalator Association (NEEA) said the International Union of Elevator Constructors had accepted its offer and workers would be back to work on July 10.

“NEEA is grateful for the patience of Ontarians under trying circumstances,” the association said in a statement. “The member companies are looking forward to having their employees back at work.”

The NEEA said the three-year deal includes a wage increase.

During the strike, which began on May 1, management gave priority to repairs in hospitals, nursing homes and buildings with only one elevator.
