Police are searching for a man who allegedly fled a RIDE stop near Highway 400 and King Road early Thursday morning.
Police say the suspect drove through the spot check around 2:30 a.m. and crashed his car moments later. He then took off on foot.
“The driver had a brief conversation with an officer then accelerated away from the scene almost striking another officer and continued southbound on Hwy 400,” Aurora OPP said in a release.
“A pursuit was initiated. The vehicle failed to stop and continued to flee from police. The pursuit was called off for safety reasons.”
The vehicle was later found in a nearby ditch.
The OPP have identified a suspect in the case. Aklaesso Agba, 26, of Mississauga, is being sought for aggravated assault on a police officer, flight from police, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
York police and Ontario Provincial Police say he is dangerous and should not be approached.
