Whitby man, 22, faces child luring charges

A Whitby man, who was very active online, has been arrested following a two-month investigation using social media, Durham regional police say.

“It is alleged the accused has been very active on social media by contacting young females in Durham Region,” police said Thursday in a release.

Member of the force’s Internet child exploitation unit posed as a 14-year-old girl online and arranged to meet the man at an Oshawa plaza on Wednesday morning.

The 22-year-old man was arrested after he arrived at the plaza but not without first a brief foot chase.

A search warrant was later conducted at the man’s residence on Fieldnest Crescent in Whitby during which eight computers, five external hard drives and six storage devices were seized.

John Haylock Jr. faces six counts of luring. The accused, who goes by online names JrRyder, John Racer, Jr Rider and Jr Racer, is being held for a bail hearing.
