2 in deadly Vaughan banquet hall shooting identified

Police believe two men who were gunned down outside a Vaughan banquet hall early Monday were targeted, and they are investigating a connection to organized crime.

Salvatore Calautti, 41, and James Tusek, 35, both of Toronto, were found suffering from gunshot wounds outside the Terrace Banquet Hall on Creditstone Road, near Rutherford Road and Jane Street, around 1 a.m.

One was shot in the head and died at the scene and the other, who was shot in the chest and stomach, was taken to hospital where he later died.

“At this point it doesn’t appear to be a random event. Investigators do believe that this was a targeted event,” said Const. Blair McQuillan.

Police say the men were shot outside the banquet hall where upwards of 500 people were attending a private party. About 100 people were still there when the shooting occurred, and police are asking for witnesses to speak to them.

No arrests have been made, but the investigation continues.
