Review on deaths involving Ornge to be released Monday

Ontario’s chief coroner will publish a review of the deaths of patients who were transported during emergencies by Ornge, the province’s troubled air ambulance service.

Dr. Dan Cass will release his findings at 1 p.m. on Monday.

The review was launched last August by then coroner Dr. Andrew McCallum after the release of cabinet documents showed the government investigated 26 deaths involving Ornge over a six-year period.

Dr. McCallum has since left that job to be head of Ornge, and he’ll also address the findings on Monday afternoon.

Ornge has been the subject of intense scrutiny over its management, its finances and the hefty $1.4 million compensation to its former CEO Chris Mazza.
