3 arrested & downtown shop shut down in fake ID bust

Three people are under arrest and a downtown shop has been shut down after staff were allegedly  selling false identification, including security badges and press cards.

Officers raided the ID Shack – located on Yonge Street north of Welleseley Street — on Tuesday and also shut down its website.

Police say the store allegedly sold replicas of government-issued identification and student ID cards as novelty items and the ID was being used for identity theft and underage drinking.

Cops also seized several thousand dollars in Canadian and American cash.

The investigation began in January, when the store was located at 599 Yonge St. The store later changed locations, moving across the street to 634 Yonge St. The new location was raided on Tuesday.

Maria Pereda Martinez, 29; Julie Jimenez, 27; and Andrew Dnieper, 42; all of Toronto, each face seven charges including forgery and identity theft.

They will appear in court on Aug. 26.
