23,000 still without power after Friday’s big storm: Hydro One

A thousand employees were working Sunday to restore electricity to the remaining 23,000 Ontario customers still without power due to Friday’s rain storm, Hydro One said.

Power was restored to 138,000 customers on Saturday, but those still without electricity were in areas such as Dundas, Midland, Orillia, Woodstock,  Fenelon Falls and Pembroke.

By Sunday afternoon over 44,000 people were still without power.

That number dropped to 23,000 by the evening and Hydro One said they were hopeful that power would be restored to another 9,000 customers by midnight.

The utility said more than 200 power poles and a number of transformers were damaged during the big storm. Winds gusting more than 100 km/h were recorded at Pearson airport on Friday.

In Toronto, about 50 customers were without power as of about 3 p.m. on Sunday.

If you are without power this morning, please call 416-542-8000 to report. Apologies to anyone who had problems calling yesterday. #darkTO
