Man in hospital after Gerrard & Greenwood fire

One person is in hospital after a two-alarm fire at a house near Gerrard Street East and Greenwood Avenue on Monday morning.

The man, believed to be in his mid-50s, suffered smoke inhalation, platoon chief Colin Reid said. His injuries are serious but not life-threatening.

The fire began on Redwood Avenue around 7:30 a.m. and was knocked down by 8:15 a.m.

“Smoke alarms were sounding in the building, which helped alert everybody and get them out of the house on time,” Reid said.

“Crews made a good stop. The fire was contained to one room.”

It’s not yet known how the fire began or the cost of the damages.
