Hwy. 401 in Mississauga reopens after tractor trailer crash

A crash involving at least two tractor-trailers blocked Highway 401 at Winston Churchill Boulevard in Mississauga for hours on Tuesday.

The collision happened around 5 a.m. and debris was blocking both the eastbound and westbound lanes.

By 7 a.m., the westbound lanes had opened but the some of the eastbound lanes remained closed.

There was also a fuel spill and the Hazardous Materials team had been called in for a clean up.

Ontario Provincial Police estimate about 400 litres of diesel fuel has spilled into the nearby catch basins and will need to be sucked up by vacuum trucks.

The highway reopened by 8:30 a.m.
