Weekend road closures in Toronto: July 26-28

It’s that time of the year again, when weekend events and construction take over Toronto, leading to road closures across the city.

680News will have an updated list each week, including subway closures due to TTC work.

Weekend events

Beaches International Jazz Festival (Thursday-Saturday closure)

The event takes place on Queen Street East from Thursday to Saturday (7 p.m. to 11 p.m. each night).

Queen Street East is scheduled to be closed in both directions, from Woodbine to Beech avenues, from 6 p.m. and midnight. TTC streetcars will be on diversion during the closures, but modified bus service will run on Woodbine Avenue and Main Street.

Residents may access and exit their streets at the following locations:

  • South of Queen from Balsam to Lee avenues
  • North and south on Lee
  • South on Wineva Avenue
  • South of Queen from Waverley Road to Kippendavie Avenue
  • South on Waverley Road (only from Norway Avenue or Kingston Road)
  • Exit via Kew Beach Avenue at Woodbine Avenue

NOTE: Kenilworth, Kippendavie, Hambley, Hartford and Herbert avenues will become two-way streets.

Live Green Toronto Festival (Saturday closure)

The following roads will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.:

  • Yonge Street from Gould Street to Queen Street West
  • Edward Street from Yonge to Atrium on the Bay
  • Victoria Street from south of Dundas Street to Dundas Square

Bay Street is an alternative north-south route for motorists.

Multicultural Exploration of Canada (Saturday-Sunday closure)

Ashtonbee Road from Warden Avenue to Thermos Road will be closed from 6 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

Repair work

Gardiner Expressway repair work

Two eastbound lanes of the Gardiner Expressway, from Jarvis Street to the Don Roadway, are closed from July 24 to Dec. 1.

TTC track repair at Richmond and York

Reconstruction work on streetcar TTC tracks will close the intersection at Richmond and York streets from 8 p.m. on July 26 to Aug. 17.

Suggested alternative routes for private vehicles are Queen Street West, Wellington Street West and King Street West. Pedestrian access to sidewalks will be maintained, the city said.
