1 dead, 3 injured as tent hits hydro wires near London

One person is dead and three others are injured in a tragic start to the long weekend.

Six men were putting up the large tent for a family function at a home on LaSalle Line, southeast of Watford when the tent touched a hydro line, electrocuting four of the workers, The Canadian Press reports.

Avinston Fire Chief Ron McCabe described the injuries as serious and said two of the men had no vital signs when first responders arrived at the scene.

McCabe says CPR was performed before they were rushed by air ambulance to a London hospital.

One of the men succumbed to his injuries in hospital. The three other men remain in serious condition.

Two of the workers were not injured in the incident.

The Ministry of Labour and  Hydro One were called to the scene.

OPP say the name of the victim will not be released until next of kin has been notified.
