‘Bollywood Star’ judges searching for reality-TV contestants

The all-Canadian judging panel of filmmaker Richie Mehta and actors Anita Majumdar and Rupinder Nagra are searching for the next Bollywood Star.

The reality show will make a star out of one lucky contestant – but the judges aren’t sure yet what they’re looking for.

“For me, I’ve spent a lot of time casting and when I’m looking for an actor or actress, it’s to conform to a certain role,” Mehta said on Breakfast Television Monday.

“Here, this is a little bit different. The actors are coming to us, saying, ‘This is what we can bring to you.’ We’re looking for people to dazzle us, because dazzle is what this industry is about.”

The judges are looking for a triple threat – someone who can sing, dance and act – to make their mark on the largest film industry in the world.

After the Canadian contestants have been whittled down, the top six finalists will travel to Mumbai, India for a “Bollywood boot camp.” And after that, it will all come down to a final audition before a famed – and as yet unnamed – Bollywood director who will crown Canada’s first Bollywood star.

Toronto auditions will be held on Sept. 28 – click here for more information – and Bollywood Star is slated to premiere on OMNI Television in spring 2014.
