Hamilton police shoot dog after child bitten

Hamilton police are investigating after an officer shot a dog that bit a child.

Officials and animal services were called to the Queen and Barton streets area around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Police told CityNews the dog attacked the officer and the animal services official, at which time the officer shot the animal.

The dog was then taken to the vet with unknown injuries.

The child was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Animal services is investigating whether charges will be laid against the dog owner.
