Bowmanville man killed in hit and run then robbed in Mexico

A family says they are seeking justice after a Bowmanville man was struck and killed by a vehicle in Mexico and then robbed.

Curtis Courneyea, 36, has been living and working in Mexico for three years when on July 31 he was fatally struck while crossing the street.

His sister Crystal van Heuvelen told CityNews Courneyea had about $500 on him at the time but that money was never recovered.

She added that despite authorities locating the vehicle that struck her brother, police have not acted on the information and his killer has not been brought to justice.

The family also claims personal items placed in Courneyea’s coffin before it was transported back to Canada were not there upon its arrival.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs has been contacted although there is no word on what role Canadian authorities can play in this case.
