2 teens dead after double shooting in North York

Two teens in a North York double shooting have died, police tell CityNews.

One of the teens, whom police identified as 16-year-old O’She Doyles-Whyte, died at the scene Friday afternoon outside a townhouse development called Yorkwoods Village on Grandravine Drive, near Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West.

The second youth, Kwame Duodu, 15, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and died later in hospital.

Whyte had arrived on his bike moments earlier to visit a friend, neighbours said.

Resident Alicia Bartholonew told CityNews that she heard a few shots that she thought were firecrackers.

“It’s when I heard the ambulance and when I heard a lady crying when I decided to look out my window,” she said. “It was really heartbreaking.”

“He was a nice child, very loving. He wasn’t a troubled child,” she added.

Police say they’re looking for three suspects who were seen fleeing the area on bikes. One was described as black and the other two were possibly Somalian, they said.

The shooting came less than a month after another teen was shot at Yorkwoods Plaza, south of Jane Street and Finch Avenue West. The 15-year-old boy died in hospital on Aug. 13.

Officials from Toronto Community Housing, which owns Yorkwoods Village, issued condolences to the victims’ family and friends.

“We are angered and saddened” by the deaths, CEO Gene Jones said in the release.

The public housing agency said it was working closely with Toronto police to assist them with their investigation and urged anyone with information to contact them.

The two teens were the city’s 38th and 39th homicide victims of the year.
