Police search for man who sliced off woman’s nose at Yonge-Dundas Square

Police continued their search Monday for the man who sliced off a woman’s nose in an unprovoked attack at Yonge-Dundas Square on Saturday.
Members of the forensic team were back at the scene of the crime dusting for fingerprints while investigators continued to comb through security video.
The 76-year-old victim was on her way home around 2 p.m., when she got on the elevator to Dundas subway station after getting off an eastbound streetcar.
A man got on the elevator with her, and at some point sliced off her nose and fled.
“The victim was left sitting in the elevator, where she was found by a passerby who rendered assistance,” said Det. Ian MacDonald.
“There’s no explanation,” he added. “The nature of the attack…creates concern for us.”
The woman was rushed to hospital where she underwent surgery to reattach her nose. She has since been released from the hospital.
“Her entire nose was severed and removed,” Det. Harry Morris told CityNews. “We think it was by a knife or some sort of blade.”
“She’s very disturbed about the incident and being attacked in a relatively public area,” said Morris. “Her family are really distraught.”
There’s no word on a motive.
The man is 40-60 years old and between five-foot-six and five-foot-eight. No other details were available.
A large crowd was in the area for BuskerFest, and police are asking any witnesses to call them.
