Lisa and Doug Degrace have a warning for other dog owners after their beloved pet was rescued from the Scarborough Bluffs on Sunday: Watch out for wide fences.

Their 12-year-old White German Shepherd fell about 33 metres while on a family walk. The area was marked and fenced in, but the dog managed to slip between two fence cables, sliding through dense bush.

“We’re very concerned about somebody else having it happen. Something should be done here,” Lisa Degrace told CityNews.

“Chicken wire, even, to keep dogs from going through there,” Doug Degrace suggested.

“Or children,” Lisa Degrace said.

Toronto firefighters were able to rescue the dog by using ropes to climb down, put the dog in a sling and bring him to safety.
