Suspects in murders of 2 teens caught on tape: police

Police say the suspects in the murders of two teens were caught on security video and the bicycles the culprits fled on have been recovered.

O’She Doyles-Whyte, 16, and Kwame Duodu, 15, were gunned down outside a Toronto Community Housing (TCH) building at Yorkwoods Village, on Grandravine Drive near Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue, on Friday.

They are the city’s 38th and 39th homicide victims of the year.

Police say they are looking for three suspects.

Duodo’s family spoke to media Monday, describing Kwame as a generous boy who wanted to use his first paycheque from a summer job to buy his younger brother new shoes.  “That’s the kind of person he is,” his uncle, Samuel Addo, said.

His sister, Comfort Duodo, had a hard time maintaining her composure when talking to reporters.

“My brother didn’t deserve this,” she said through a stream of tears.

The family appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Police confirmed the images of the suspects on Monday, and said they believe they know who they are seeking, but didn’t provide names.

Earlier, TCH spokesperson Sara Goldvine told CityNews that some of the 69 security cameras in the area weren’t working because they were vandalized.

“I can’t get into the specifics of how they were vandalized because we are taking steps to catch the vandals. The majority of the cameras are still able to record,” she said.

Broken equipment may also have played a factor in a separate fatal shooting at another TCH building.

Earlier this year, residents of 605 Whiteside Place, near Dundas and River streets, say paramedics had to climb 10 flights of stairs after Tyson Bailey, 15, was shot.
