‘The Butler’ tops weekend box office

The Butler topped the North American weekend box office for the second week in a row, followed by We’re the Millers and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.

The Butler stars Forest Whitaker as Cecil Gaines, who served eight American presidents in the White House. It raked in $17 million US this weekend with an overall $52 million since it opened 10 days ago, the website estimated.

We’re the Millers, starring Jason Sudeikis as a pot dealer who creates a fake family with Jennifer Aniston to move a drug large shipment across the Mexican border, posted $13.5 million.

The Mortal Instruments based on the young adult fantasy trilogy made $9.3 million.
