Leafs, Kadri getting closer to deal: report

The Toronto Maple Leafs and restricted free agent Nazem Kadri appear to be getting closer to a deal.

The two sides have reportedly settled on a two-year bridge deal but remain apart on money, Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos said on Hockey Central at Noon on Monday. According to Kypreos, the money being discussed is likely between $2.8 million and $3.5 million per season.

Kadri has denied recent reports that he is seeking a long-term, big-money contract. The 22-year-old finished second on the Leafs in scoring last season with 18 goals and 44 points in 48 games.

The Leafs have slightly less than $5 million in cap space, according to capgeek.com, to resign Kadri and restricted free agent defenceman Cody Franson.
