TIFF Day 8 brings ‘Argo’ redux & ‘The Love Punch’

Diplomat Ken Taylor, nearly shut out from the Oscar-winning Argo, will have his turn in the spotlight on Thursday.

Our Man in Tehran, a documentary that tells the Canadian story behind the Iran hostage crisis of 1979, will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and Taylor will answer questions afterward.

Taylor, Canada’s former ambassador to Iran, personally sheltered six American diplomats in the operation that became known as “the Canadian Caper,” TIFF said.

Our Man in Tehran is directed by Drew Taylor and Larry Weinstein and will screen at the TIFF Bell Lightbox at 6:15 p.m.

The world premiere of The Face of Love, a romantic comedy starring Annette Bening, Ed Harris and Robin Williams, will be shown at the Elgin Theatre.

Bening will walk the red carpet.

The night will end with the gala presentation of The Love Punch, a British comedy written and directed by Joel Hopkins. Actors Emma Thompson and Pierce Brosnan, who star as a divorced couple who reunite for a jewel heist, will attend the world premiere at Roy Thomson Hall.
