J.K. Rowling to write ‘Harry Potter’ spinoff

Author J.K. Rowling is taking fans back to the rewarding world of Harry Potter.

On Thursday, Warner Brothers announced a new partnership with Rowling that includes a spinoff film series.

Rowling will write the screenplay for the first film, called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

It’s based on the Hogwarts textbook of the same name (Hogwarts is the school Potter and other wizards attend).

The film will focus on the textbook’s fictitious author, Newt Scamander, and takes place 70 years before Harry came to Hogwarts.

Rowling said in a statement the movie  is “neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world.”

The partnership with Warner Brothers also includes new attractions for the Harry Potter theme park attractions and a TV miniseries based on an adult novel by Rowling.
