Feds announce over $3M in funding to fight Scarborough gangs

The federal government has earmarked more than $3 million to help fight gangs in Scarborough.

Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney announced the funding on Thursday.

The money will be doled out over the next five years, and will go to Taking Action Against Gangs Scarborough (TAAGS) — a project that helps at-risk Scarborough youth steer clear of gangs and the violent lifestyle associated with them.

TAAGS is run by the Agincourt Community Services Association.

“Our Government is taking strong actions to prevent crime and improve the safety of our communities,” said Minister Blaney.

“Today, I had the opportunity to visit some of the innovative projects we fund that are giving at-risk youth the tools and opportunities to help them to steer clear of crime. These projects are clear examples of how our Government is helping Toronto communities tackle crime.”
